The Borno state governor in North-East Nigeria, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has flagged off the safe return and resettlement of Dalori 1, Dalori 2, Gubio, and Muna El- Badawi IDP camps in collaboration with Victims Supports Fund (VSF) in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Speaking at the flag off ceremony, the Commissioner, Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) Engineer Mustapha Gubio said the destroyed communities were reconstructed and in 2016, 6 IDP camps in MMC and Jere were closed due to the desire of the people to return to their ancestral homes.

Hon. Gubio further said, about 1,020 houses were commissioned by his Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Since Inception in 2019, several communities have been resettled and IDP’s have returned to their ancestral homes with the support of his Excellency the executive Governor of Borno state and other development partners.

“Today we are witnessing the  closure of four IDP camps, Dalori 1, Dalori 2 and Gubio and muna El-Badawi camps in MMC and Jere respectively.“

The Commissioner commended the Victims Supports Fund for its contribution in rehabilitating the people of Borno state particularly the Internally displaced Persons IDPs .

The Executive Director victim support fund (VSF) Prof. Nana Tanko who represented the Chairman of the victims support, assured the people that the team would ensure they are well settled and will be provided with resources that will help them start all over and return to their means of livelihood.

“We remain committed to this process as we are not only going to support and facilitate your movement back to your communities ,we’re also going to provide resources that will help you get settled and that your lives will go on and be better than it was when the insurgency emerged.”

“Today we are distributing Items such as food, hygiene kit, blankets, kitchen utensils and cash.”

Professor Nana, further explained that the disbursement are in 3 categories, Women will receive N50,000, women who are head of their families will receive N100,000 and of course the men will receive 100,000 each.

The Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, while responding said, there’s every need to return people back to their homes as keeping them in IDP camps was no longer sustainable.

“The growing prostitution in IDP camps brought about procreation without care, drug abuse and other illicit activities in IDP camps that made life in the camps to be no more sustainable ,therefore government has decided to close all official IDP camps within Maiduguri.”

The governor applauded the Chairman of the Victim Supports Fund, Gen. Theophilous Danjuma for his immense help in coordinating the affairs of the team and its provision of resources for the IDP’s.

He stated that the VSF has contributed more than any other National governmental organisation to the people of Borno State. He also applauded the Executive Director of the VSF in person of Prof. Nana Tanko.

He stated that dynamics and tactical approaches with greater synergy from security operatives were put in place to enhance logistics supports.
